Recently, the Vietnam Vets Motorcycle Club made another donation to the Homeless Veterans Program at the St. Cloud VA. They have been riding to raise awareness and to benefit homeless Veterans in the St. Cloud area since 2005 and have contributed in excess of $25,000 over the years.
The Homeless Veterans Program uses the donated money in a variety of ways. Carolyn Ramirez, a social worker with the St. Cloud VA’s Homeless Veteran program, says the funds are used for Veterans who are experiencing homelessness, or who are at risk of facing homelessness.
Ramirez added, “We also use the funds for a variety of needs. These needs can include things such as bus passes to get to and from work, phone cards to stay in contact with their family, and vouchers to purchase lunch at the VA while they are attending appointments. We also use these funds to purchase items such as train tickets or long distance bus tickets to help a Veteran return home for a family emergency. We have also been able to buy items like warm winter jackets, boots and long underwear which help many Veterans get through our cold winters.”
According to Patricia Aljets, of the Voluntary Service office at the St. Cloud VA, “Through generous donations from organizations like the Vietnam Vets Motorcycle Club, we have been able to help out many Veterans who are in need, and we will be able to continue to do so for the Veterans we encounter in the future. “
