St. Cloud VA Hosts Local Veterans Art Show

January 10, 2018

Artwork by Veterans will be on display at the Veterans Art Show on Wednesday, February 7, from 12:30 to 6:30 p.m., and Thursday, February 8, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., in the Auditorium (Building 8) on the St. Cloud VA Medical Center campus. The show is open to the public.

It is estimated that over 60 pieces of art from among 51 different categories will be exhibited.

Categories consist of fine art such as painting, drawing, sculpture and photography; applied art that includes ceramics, carving, needlework and leatherwork; and craft kits such as string art, fabric art and wood building.

The art show honors local Veteran participants in the Veterans Creative Arts Competition, an annual competitive event that provides Veterans receiving treatment at VA facilities the opportunity to participate in creative self-expression in art, creative writing, dance, drama and music as part of their therapy, and to gain recognition for these artistic accomplishments.

Local artists will judge the artwork to determine first, second and third place in each category.

First place winners from the national competition will be invited to attend the National Veterans Creative Arts Festival, hosted this year by the VA Central Iowa Health Care System in Des Moines, Iowa, the week of October 29 – November 5, 2018.

Building 8 is located on the northeast portion of the VA campus. Limited vehicle parking is available to the east of Building 8.

Members of the media wanting to cover the show are asked to contact the Public Affairs office for access and escort at (320) 255-6353.
