Brent A. Thelen, PhD
Health Care System Director
Dr. Brent Thelen was appointed as Health Care System Director, St. Cloud VA Health Care System, on Sept. 29, 2019. Dr. Thelen previously served in the VA as a Director, Quality Management Systems/ISO Consultant Division (QCD-ICD) from Dec. 2012 to Sept. 2019, and Interim Medical Center Director at the Carl Vinson VA Medical Center in Dublin, Georgia from Sept. 2018 to January 2019. Dr. Thelen also served as Acting Deputy Network Director, VISN 7 and Acting Medical Center Director, Northern Indiana VA Health Care System, and as Associate Medical Center Director, Detroit VA Medical Center. Dr. Thelen is a U.S. Air Force Veteran, serving as a Forward Satellite/Digital Communication Technician, and Non-Commissioned Officer, from May 1983 to August 1992. Dr. Thelen holds an Associate Degree in Electrical Engineering from the Community College of the Air Force, a Bachelor of Science in Industrial Engineering Technology from Southern Illinois University, a Master of Science in Administration from Central Michigan University and a Ph.D. in Engineering/Industrial Management from Columbia University.
Cheryl L. Thieschafer
Cheryl Thieschafer currently serves as the Associate Director of the St. Cloud VA Health Care System. Appointed in April, 2012, she is responsible for the financial and administrative operations of the St. Cloud VA Health Care System. Previously, she served as an Analyst and Staff Assistant to the Health Care System Director, and as the Facility Planner. She is a graduate of the 2012 VA Health Care Leadership Program and is a Member of the American College of Healthcare Executives. She received a Bachelor of Science degree in Nutrition and Food Service from North Dakota State University and a Master of Health Administration from Baylor University. Her prior experience includes a number of progressively responsible appointments at the St. Cloud VA Health Care System, and 13 years of service in the U.S. Army, where she attained the rank of Major while serving in positions of increasing responsibility.
Scott C. Bartley, MD
Chief of Staff
Scott Bartley, MD, was appointed as Chief of Staff, St. Cloud VA Health Care System, on October 1, 2017. Prior to his appointment, he served as the St. Cloud VA’s Acting Chief of Staff beginning June 16, 2017, and, beginning in October 2016, as Associate Chief of Staff/Education and Chief of Imaging. Dr. Bartley has been instrumental in implementing Family Medicine Residency rotations at the St. Cloud VA through affiliation with the University of Minnesota/CentraCare Residency Program. Dr. Bartley’s previous experience includes several successful appointments within the VA, including Associate Chief of Staff for Credentialing and Privileging at the Atlanta VA Medical Center, Interim Chief of Staff and Deputy Chief of Staff at the VA Tennessee Valley Health Care System, Acting Chief Medical Officer for VISN 7, and a detail to the Assistant Deputy Undersecretary for Health Operations and Management, Clinical Operations, in Washington, DC. A nuclear medicine physician by training, Dr. Bartley completed his medical degree at St. George’s University School of Medicine, St. George’s, Grenada. He completed his nuclear medicine residency and PET fellowship at Emory University, Atlanta, GA, and is a board certified nuclear medicine physician. Dr. Bartley is an active professional member of the Society of Nuclear Medicine and Molecular Imaging, the American College of Nuclear Medicine, and the AMA CPT and RUC Committees.
Teresa Tungseth, MN, RN
Acting Associate Director of Patient Care Services/Nurse Executive
Teresa Tungseth has been appointed to serve as the Acting Associate Director for Patient Care Services/Nurse Executive, St. Cloud VA Health Care System, effective Dec. 29, 2019. Ms. Tungseth has served Veterans at Minneapolis VA Health Care System since 1995, most recently as the Deputy Associate Director for Patient Care Services/Deputy Nurse Executive. During this time, Ms. Tungseth has also served in Acting Nurse Executive positions at both the Minneapolis and Washington DC VA Medical Centers. Prior to her roles in executive leadership, she served Veterans and staff as staff nurse, nurse educator, and nurse manager of the step-down unit. Ms. Tungseth is a native of Minneapolis, Minnesota. She received her Bachelor of Arts Degree in Nursing at the University of St. Catherine’s in St. Paul, MN and her Master of Nursing in Nursing Leadership at Bethel University in St. Paul, MN. Ms. Tungseth has been an adjunct faculty member at St. Catherine’s University. She is a member of the local chapter of American Organization of Nursing Leaders and a long-standing VISN 23 LEAD Mentor.
